I have some questions...
Hello, I just bought Guild Wars Phrophecies because I read some good reviews, and I am about to create my characters, but there are a few things I would like to know before I do, and I am sorry if these are noob questions, I checked the FAQ and didnt see them there so...
1- If Monk chooses Warrior as secondary, will that job be at least somewhat profiecient in melee attacks? 2-Will Primary Jobs (example monk) be able to equip the weapons or armours from another job (example warrior)that is their secondary? 3- Is there any form of martial arts, or some way to be strong in unarmed combat? If so which jobs? 4- Can any of the characters in this chapter get a whip as a weapon? Thank you so much for you patience and I would REALLY appreciate the help. P.S. If you havnt guessed yet I would really liek to have a character that wears light clothing and is profiecient in unarmed combat. And another character that uses a whip as a primary.... lol sounds kind of wierd. |

unfortunately there are not "hand to hand" or martial arts combat in GW. Although any character can use a weapon/item of any other "class" although they may not get max dmg from usiing it unless the meet the requirements for the item but they will get the "extra" bonus like hps or energy
a great place for you to check out is www.guildwiki.org it has a lot of information you should really take your time and look through it. I wouldn't suggest becoming a monk and then picking a warrior as a secondary just so you can mele fight...although in certain instances and in certain areas a monk can take much more damage than a warrior can but that is because of the skills you have... if you really want to be a warrior then pick a warrior...monks should mainly be about protection or healing...not in there dishing out a bunch of damage...although like i said before they can do great at it in certain places or with certain skills...but that is for a more advance player...do a search on 55 hp monk on the site i told you about. I suggest making several characters and picking several different secondaries for each character before "choosing" which will be your first true character...lvl them up to lvl 5-7 and see which u like the best. Also just because you picked a secondary doesn't mean you can't switch it to another secondary later in the game... |

Indiana Jones xD A whip would be awesome.
Or those "ball tied to a stick with a chain" things. No idea how they're called, but having one to swing around would be awesome. Of course, I'd try it once and give it up, since I'm not a fan of melee 1. A Mo/W won't be as effective in melee because he's got weaker armor than a warrior, so he'll take more damage. While specific builds will make a solo monk almost unbeatable, in regular PvE monks are support units, keeping the damage dealers alive. 2. You can equip any weapon/shield/offhand from any profession. To get the full benefit of the equipment, you need to meet the requirement (req). By example, a Monk will be able to put 9 points in Divine Favor, and use a Staff that has a req 9 Divine Favor, and he will get the max damage from it. A Warrior, not having access to Divine Favor, will have minimum damage from that weapon. Of course, people would wonder what a big and strong warrior is doing with a staff Waht do you understand by "light armor"? Appearance? Like, cloth, seemingly flimsy materials, etc, as opposed to the classic Warrior look, with metal armor? Rangers have good armor as well, and some of the ranger armor sets can be called "light", such as Druid's. However, in GW there isn't an armor classification based on Light and Heavy, like there is in Morrowind. Most people choose armor based on the benefits they give you, and after NF, based on looks. |

Here's a little humor about a monk with a warrior secondary http://www.crithitcomics.com/botmanga01.htm
As stated by other posters, no un-armed combat in GW. All professions have a main attribute that is not available for use with a secondary. For a warrior this attribute is Strength, which increases the damage through armor penetration. There is a Smiting Prayers attribute for monks. The skills in this line are focused on damage instead of healing.
